Azad Jammu & Kashmir board of intermediate and secondary education started its functioning as an independent body for the Kashmir region in 1973 after the orders given by the government of Azad Kashmir. The very first exams under the command of BISE AJK board were organized in 1974 just after the one year of its establishment for matric and intermediate level.
